In this study, the product stage information modules A1, A2, and A3 are considered. These modules include production of raw material extraction and processing (A1), transport of the raw materials to the manufacturer (A2), manufacturing of the product and the packaging materials (A3). The dataset is mainly based on good quality primary data. No allocation in the foregroundsystem was applied, but there were allocations in the background system applied. Basically, a comparison or an evaluation of EPD data is only possible if all the data sets to be compared were created according to EN 15804 and the building context, respectively the product-specific characteristics of performance, are taken into account.0The data set represents the production of preweathered zinc sheet of company Asturiana de Laminados S.A. in 33695 Villallana, Spain. The data set considers all important technologies and legal parameters.The system boundaries comprise the cradle to gate life cycle of preweathered Zinc-sheet in the year 2011. In case of specific electricity or steam supply, these systems are built up in GaBi models. The incineration of production residues and any credits for energy generation are considered in all models. The LCI dataset considers the production of raw materials (Modul A1) and auxiliary materials (Modul A3), and packaging material (Modul A3). It excludes the transports of the finished product from the factory to subsequent users. Transportation processes for the raw materials are accounted for as far as data on average transport distances were available (Modul A2).
All relevant material and energy flows were included in the system. Life cycle impacts of production equipment and infrastructure were not included in the system as no evidence could be justified that these are to any extent relevant and thus fell under the cut-off criteria. In mass production the impact of production equipment and infrastructure normally is in orders of magnitude lower than the impacts of material and energy supply.
The dataset refers to 1kg Titanium-Zinc sheet.

Background system:
The background system is addressed as follows: Electricity, Thermal energy: The electricity (and thermal energy as by-product) used is modelled according to the individual country-specific situation. The country-specific modelling is achieved on multiple levels. Firstly the individual power plants in service are modelled according to the current national grid. This includes net losses and imported electricity. Second, the national emission and efficiency standards of the power plants are modelled. Third, the country-specific fuel supply (share of resources used, by import and / or domestic supply) including the country-specific properties (e.g. element and energy contents) are accounted for. Fourth, the import, transport, mining and exploration processes for the energy carrier supply chain are modelled according to the specific situation of each power-producing country. The different mining and exploration techniques (emissions and efficiencies) in the different exploration countries are accounted for according to current engineering knowledge and information. Steam: The steam supply is modelled according to the individual country-specific situation with regard to the technology efficiencies and energy carriers used. Efficiencies range from 84% to 94% in relation to the representative energy carrier (gas, oil, coal). Coal, crude oil and natural gas used for the generation of steam are modelled according to the specific import situation (see electricity). Transports: All relevant and known transport processes used are included. Overseas transport including rail and truck transport to and from major ports for imported bulk resources are included. Furthermore all relevant and known pipeline and / or tanker transport of gases and oil imports are included. Energy carriers: Coal, crude oil, natural gas and uranium are modelled according to the specific import situation (see electricity). Refinery products: Diesel, gasoline, technical gases, fuel oils, basic oils and residues such as bitumen are modelled via a country-specific, refinery parameterized model. The refinery model represents the current national standard in refinery techniques (e.g. emission level, internal energy consumption,...) as well as the individual country-specific product output spectrum, which can be quite different from country to country. Hence the refinery products used show the individual country-specific use of resources. The applied cut – off criteria is 1 % of renewable and non-renewable primary energy usage and 1 % of the total mass input of that unit process in case of insufficient input data or data gaps for a unit process.
The sum of the neglected material flows does not exceed 5 % of mass, energy or envi-ronmental relevance. Cut-off criteria have been applied on unit processes and not on calculated inventories.NoneAs a general rule, specific data derived from specific production processes or average data derived from specific production processes was the first choice. For life cycle modelling of the considered product, the GaBi 6 Software System for Life Cycle Engineering, developed by thinkstep AG, is used (/GABI 6 2012/). All relevant background datasets are taken from the GaBi 6 software database. The datasets from the database GaBi are documented in online documentation /GABI 6 2012B/. To ensure comparability of results in the LCA, the basic data of GaBi database were used for energy, transportation and auxiliary materials. All data used is no more than 8 years old. The model for the A3 module was based on primary data provided by Asturiana de Laminados. Primary data collected covered all the production steps taking place in gate-to-gate zinc sheet production plant: melting, casting, rolling, coiling, stretching and cutting and pre-weathering process. The transport used for all raw materials (module A2) and for the auxiliary materials (A3) is a Euro 4 truck with 34 – 40 t of total capacity and a payload capacity of 27t. The load factor is 85%. All related emissions were modelled. The gaps in the primary data were closed using the data from GaBi 6 databases.
